BSJ Daily Briefing 11.30.20: Patriots survive in ugly win over Cardinals; Revs punch ticket to Eastern Conference Final taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

Adam Richins For BSJ

Good morning!

Your daily rundown of what’s going on with the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Revolution, and what’s about to happen…

Cam Newton might have said it best postgame — “I’d rather have an ugly win than a pretty loss.”

Despite accumulating just 179 yards of total offense, the Patriots managed to gut their way to a 20-17 win over the Cardinals at Gillette Stadium — with Nick Folk capping off a wild fourth quarter with a game-winning, 50-yard field goal.

Despite the win, Greg thinks it's time to give Jarrett Stidham a look going forward.

A controversial call against Anfernee Jennings didn't end up costing the Patriots in this one. But a couple of questionable calls made by Kliff Kingsbury and Co. played a major role in Arizona's choke-heavy performance in the closing minutes of play.

The Revs’ playoff train keeps on rolling, as New England bested Orlando City SC, 3-1, in the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Sunday. Gustavo Bou scored twice, while Carles Gil also scored and helped set up both of Bou's tallies en route to the win. The Revolution will now take on Columbus Crew SC in the Eastern Conference Final — currently scheduled for Dec. 6.

Matt Turner kept New England’s lead intact in the 74th minute thanks to this clutch save on a penalty kick. What a stop:

The Celtics’ sign-and-trade deal with the Hornets is now a done deal — with Gordon Hayward officially off to Charlotte. Boston now has tons of flexibility with this new trade exception.

B-Robb breaks down why the Celtics opted to pass on any deal involving Myles Turner.

Sean provides some insight on what should be a growing pool of free agents available this MLB offseason.

Could the 2012-13 Red Sox winter roster rebuild provide a road map for the 2020-21 Red Sox?

Conor spoke to Bruins prospect Jack Ahcan on what led to his decision to sign with Boston after four standout seasons at St. Cloud State. Fans are going to want to keep an eye on this kid this upcoming season.

Tom Brady and the Bucs continue to struggle — but it’s not all on the quarterback and reports of his decline. This Tampa Bay team has some serious issues.
