BSJ Weekend Briefing 11.13.20: Belichick bristles at criticism; Patriots have chance vs. Ravens; Celtics Hot Stove taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

Good afternoon!

Your daily rundown of what's going on with the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Revolution, and what's about to happen...

  • Bill Belichick didn't like it earlier today when Tom E. Curran (Tommy Point for Tommy!) asked the coach why the team has had a harder team getting consistent production from the draft the past four seasons.

  • Belichick waited 13 seconds before beating around it and then saying ... "The most important thing to me this week is winning games. I’m not going to apologize for our record over the last 20 years. I’ve seen a lot worse."

  • That dovetailed with his answer in January — his team just 4-5 down the stretch and headed into a tough playoff matchup against the Titans — to an innocuous question from a news reporter asking what he wanted to say to his fans who have stuck by the team through thick and thin? "I wouldn’t say it’s been all that thin around here, personally. Maybe you feel differently, but I haven’t heard too many fans say that."

  • Belichick's right, his record is basically unmatched, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be questioned. Don Shula was great for many years ... then he wasn't. You can do both, win and keep the roster competitive. That's why Belichick was celebrated for so long universally. That tide has turned, and he's getting deserved criticism because he's the lone voice. It was fine when he could say, "Scoreboard" all the time. Now he can't.

  • I don't see the harm in saying, "Look, we have had a great run and I expect that to continue, and I think many of our young players will have a positive impact on this team. The situation the past year or so has been tough, but I need to do a better job as the head coach to bring them around. And if they don't succeed, that's my failing as coach and GM. We'll see what happens. I like our young group."

  • Don't count out the Patriots this weekend against the Ravens, who are far from the same team we saw last season.

  • Chat coming up!

  • Celtics' hot stove is heating up with Jrue Holiday and Myles Turner rumors.
