Michael Mancienne about 70 percent to full fitness as he works to return to Revs lineup taken at Gillette Stadium (Revolution)

FOXBOROUGH — Revolution center back Michael Mancienne said Thursday morning that he is about 70 percent recovered from his foot injury that has kept him sidelined since early May.

After playing in eight of New England’s first 11 games in 2019, Mancienne has not played for The Boys In Blue since Saturday, May 4’s 6-1 loss to Philadelphia. In that game, it was apparent that the Englishman was dealing with some sort of injury, as he moved rather slow with the Union’s counterattack.

The Revs then shut Mancienne down after he was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in his right heel.

It has been something he has dealt with since the preseason, he said following Thursday morning’s training session at the Revolution training pitch to the south of Gillette Stadium, and that it grew to be a problem.

“It's good to be back out, to be honest,” Mancienne said. “I don't think I've felt this good all season, even when I was playing. Even at the start (of the season), because I still had quite a bit of pain then. I was just kind of pushing through it.

“My heel was kind of hurting throughout preseason, but it got a little bit better. And it got worse as games went on. I don't have a clue (about how it happened). It's just something that gradually just got worse.

“This is probably the best I’ve felt in a while.”

Mancienne recently returned to training two-and-a-half weeks ago, as the Revs’ social media team posted still photos of him jogging off to the side at their July 9 training session. During Thursday’s open viewing period, he was out in front of goal at right side center back, moving rather fluidly.
