First and 10: Happy New League Year, everyone! taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

(Adam Richins/Boston Sports Journal)

Welcome to first and 10, a roundup of all the (mostly) Patriots-related news you need to start your Wednesday. Grab your coffee and let’s get to it.

If there are no free agents left when "free agency" starts, what happens?

The tampering window closes Wednesday afternoon and the new league year begins, which rings in the official start of free agency and what should be a new wave of signings. (The agreements made during the last couple of days will finally get to be executed.) But we'll be hard-pressed to match the frantic nature of the last 48 hours or so, a stretch that has seen some blockbuster moves, including the Odell Beckham-to-Cleveland trade Tuesday night that ended up paralyzing Twitter. Let's just say that if the next few days are anywhere near as exciting, we're in for a wild ride.

5. The details of Flowers' deal with Detroit were leaked, and man, it's a massive contract. This, from the Detroit Free Press: "On an average annual salary basis, Flowers' contract is worth $18 million, which is more than the franchise tag for defensive ends this year ($17.128 million) and is the fifth largest number for any defensive player in the NFL, according to Spotrac."

6. Danny Amendola said his decision to sign with Detroit came down to one thing. “Just my relationship with Coach (Matt) Patricia,” he said in a conference call. “The experiences we’ve had together and what we’ve gone through, and just that excitement is mutual. So I’m excited to be here, exited to get started and looking forward to getting to work.”
