BSJ Daily Briefing 04.17.18: Both playoff series look to be contests after busy weekend taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I'm starting to really get fed up with this weather. Enough already...

  • First of all, congrats to anyone who even took part in yesterday's Marathon. To run in those conditions ... what determination.

  • And if you missed this on Sunday ... if you're only ever going to read one BSJ story, we hope it's this one.

  • As far as the games, obviously the Bruins dropped one in Toronto and the series could be extended a few games. But this is still all about Boston. I mean, the Bruins had about their "B" game and still should have won if they buried half the chances they missed or clanged off the post or had goalies making ridiculous stick saves.

  • About the only thing that worries me (other than the Leafs getting Komarov back for Game 4 and Kadri back in 5 perhaps with some confidence) is Frederik Andersen looked to find himself late in the second and through the third. Beware the hot goalie.

  • He scored, but I'm still not worried about Auston Matthews. Bruins are using the checking line to push him around and it's working.

  • So the refs got the delay of game penalty wrong, it happens. What, the Bruins can't stop a power play for more than 3 seconds?

  • What a phenomenal game Al Horford had against the Bucks in Game 1 on both ends of the floor. The only question is how long can he keep that pace up?

  • Has anyone seen Eric Bledsoe?

  • This is going to be long series with some ugly basketball at times.

  • The Sox start a West Coast swing tonight. I'm kind of surprised the Red Sox are 13-2 and "only" have a 3.5-game lead over surprising Toronto (which the Sox play at the end of the trip). Usually, with a start like that, you're up about six or seven. Of course, tonight's opponent, the Angels (13-3) are almost as hot.

  • As for the Patriots' recent drama, I'll have more to say at some point but for now, things can change quickly and I want to see how it plays out. But I will say this: the longer Gronk stays away, the more the odds of him getting traded increase. It's one thing for QB1 to throw a little fit, but it's another for the tight end (who they won a Super Bowl without) to join him. If Alex Guerrero is at the heart of this, then the quickest way for Bill Belichick to strike back is to jettison one of TB12's prominent clients.
