HEADLINES

The home unbeaten streak comes to an end: For the first time since July 5, the Revolution tasted defeat in front of 11,508 at Gillette Stadium. That’s 12 matches since the last loss, the short side of a 3-2 decision to New York Red Bulls. New England is now 3-2-1 on the season and still third in the Eastern Conference, with no other Saturday night results affecting the Revs’ placement. Dallas improved to 2-0-3 with the win.

Revs aggrieved, and rightfully so: In the second minute of a minimum of three minutes second-half stoppage time, FC Dallas centerback Matt Hedges clipped the back of New England striker Krisztian Nemeth’s leg inside the penalty box. Nemeth went down, but referee Hilario Grajeda, even with several Revolution players swarming him and clamoring for a penalty, did not award a potential equalizing spot-kick.

Revolution manager Brad Friedel noted that after reviewing the sequence post-match, he said it should have been a penalty.

“Sometimes you’re going to be on the good side of those, and sometimes you’re going to be on bad sides, but with video review, that was unquestionably a penalty,” he said.

Said Nemeth: “I asked (Grajeda) to check the VAR, and he said he already checked it. You should ask him. I feel (Hedges) kicked me.”

New England presses: Too many heavy touches on the ball either blazed over to land in The Fort or in the lighthouse tunnel, or went straight into the hands of Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer (six saves). We’ll have more on how the Revs needed to get more angular.

TURNING POINT

New England’s defense had one really porous moment: Dallas youngster Jacori Hayes scored the opener to his Major League Soccer account in the 76th minute of the match, and he trotted unmarked toward the penalty spot to take Roland Lamah’s pass from the channel as Revs centerback – and captain – Claude Dielna watched. Hayes tucked it in at the near post.
