Bedard: After another OL trade (Jermaine Eluemunor), where does that leave line and roster? taken at BSJ Headquarters (Patriots)

The Patriots have been busy bees when it comes to the trade front and addressing the thin depth they have on the offensive line that was further tested when David Andrews was lost for a while recovering from blood clots in his lungs.

First, the Patriots traded for Cardinals OT Korey Cunningham. Now they've swung a trade for Ravens guard/tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (eh-LOO-muh-nor).

First we'll get into what Eluemunor has shown on film, including video analysis, and then we'll try to figure out what this means for the line in regards to the final cutdown and also the impact on the overall roster (likely losing at least one roster spot to use elsewhere):

  • Eluemunor (6-4, 335) was a fifth-round pick of the Ravens in 2017 but curiously he was waived two games into his second season, not claimed and signed to the practice squad. That's a bit of a red flag. Reportedly he showed up out of shape to camp this year and never really enamored the coaching staff.

  • On film, Eluemunor is a close physical and playing-style comp to Marcus Cannon, who originally was slated to play guard but couldn't deal with the speed inside and settled in at right tackle. Eluemunor has big legs, is a bit skinny in the arms but plays with good strength when he wants to.

  • He played a lot of left tackle last year, including the game below against the Steelers, and did well for himself. There's nothing flashy about his game, but he does have tackle feet, plays with good awareness and knows how to use leverage.

  • There was one play in the Steelers game where he gave up a sack but it was negated by penalty. He just got his shoulders a little turned toward the sideline and was out of position when the rusher jumped inside.

  • I think this trade is an indictment that fourth-round pick Hjalte Froholdt is not ready for game action. That has to be a disappointment. Obviously not a lost cause or anything, but he has not played well in camp or the preseason games. They do not feel comfortable with him being on the active gameday roster yet.

  • Here's a look at Eluemunor on film:
