Good questions this week -- topics included cap space, free-agent spending and whether possible changes to the CBA could impact a new deal for Tom Brady. Let's get to it.
Question from Twitter follower Colin Brady: is an extension for BRADY complicated by the expiring collective bargaining agreement and the particular rules which are in place for the final year?
Answer: Not really. The 30 percent rule is not that much of a factor -- that limits the amount of the increase of the player's salary after 2020 to 30 percent of his 2020 salary. That is, if Brady's 2020 salary is $10 million his 2021 salary can be no more than $13 million since three million is 30 percent of ten million.
Answer: Stephon Gilmore's 2020 cap number increased by $2,833,333 to $18,670,833 while his 2021 cap number increased by $2,833,334 to $19,670,834.
Answer: Have no idea. Wonder under the new CBA if it will be changed to the Top 53.
Answer: Yes, it does. My current $17,547,138 Patriots salary cap space number accounts for the $4,706,368 in dead money.
