Revs stay in the Eastern Conference basement with defeat: Thanks to Philadelphia’s 3-0 win over Columbus on Saturday evening, the Revolution started Sunday in 12th place — the cellar in the Eastern Conference. Following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to the latest expansion club in MLS, FC Cincinnati — a club that was missing its point man up top, as well as four starters out on international duty — New England is still 12th on goal difference to Chicago (-5 to -3). The loss also marked the second consecutive home shut out by the opposition; that hasn’t happened in the first two home games of a season since 2013.
Manneh puts FCC ahead late in the first half: Despite having 51 percent (50.6) of the ball — and for about 25 minutes or so, good amounts of possession — the Revs couldn’t get the ball in the net thanks to Cincinnati’s defending bunkering in. But it was the Blue and Orange going into the locker room up by a goal to nil at the half, as Kekuta Manneh dispossessed Wilfried Zahibo and started a vicious counter-attack. He would slot home on Kenny Saief’s pass in the 44th minute. You can’t say it wasn’t deserved.
