--Ron Torbert is going to work as the referee for Friday's Patriots-Panthers game. Torbert worked a pair of New England games last year, one of them being the divisional playoff win over the Titans at Gillette Stadium.
There have been 51 helmet rule penalties so far, in 33 NFL preseason games. That's 1.5 per game, with 43 on the defense and eight on the offense.
