Welcome to first and 10, a roundup of all the (mostly) Patriots-related news you need to start your Friday. Grab your coffee and let’s get to it.
Big day for football coverage around these parts. We've got all the reaction you need from Thursday's 26-17 preseason win over the Redskins, as well as some thoughts on Tom Brady's "adjusted" contract. But first, a couple of quick notes:
--No training camp practice on Friday -- there will be a media conference call with Bill Belichick in the morning, but the players won't be on the field Friday. At this point, we're still waiting to hear about the schedule for the rest of the weekend. As always, if there’s a question about practice, you can verify times by calling 508-549-0001 or by visiting www.patriots.com/trainingcamp.
--Spent some quality time talking with Ja'Whaun Bentley after the game on Thursday night, and came away really impressed at his poise and his calm. A guy wise beyond his years -- no surprise he was the only three-time captain in the history of Purdue football. Ultimately, at first glance, he might have been the best thing about the New England defense on Thursday night.
--Not much to report on the renovated Patriots' locker room -- maybe the most impressive thing is the fact that it seems so much more well-lit than the old place. Brighter. We'll have some more details soon, but the veterans are in pretty much the same spots they were before. But the lockers themselves look a lot more impressive.
Now, on with the links...
1. Greg's game report has everything you need to know about the preseason win, a contest that was sloppy and sluggish at the start, but was at least partially redeemed by an interesting finish. Nice way for the youngsters to get their NFL baptism, especially Bentley and Ralph Webb.
2. I talked with Bentley after the game. He's a guy who reminds me of Jerod Mayo for a few reasons, including the fact both of them have No. 51, and both are thumpers with a thirst for contact.
3. Without benefit of a post-game film study, here's a quick look at five areas/players where the Patriots looked good, and five where they didn't.
4. Our Live Coverage page kept you updated all evening long.
5. Here's a gallery of the best from BSJ photographer Adam Richins from Thursday.
6. We have video of Jeremy Hill, Ralph Webb, Brian Hoyer and Bill Belichick talking about Thursday's win.
7. Greg offers his thoughts on Brady's adjusted contract.
8. Miguel has an absolutely exhaustive look at what Brady's reworked deal means for both the quarterback and the team.
9. Greg talked with our buddy Nick Cattles before the game and the Patriots' Postgame Show after the contest. And I spent some quality time talking Patriots with my buddy Chad Dukes of 106.7 The Fan in D.C. before the game Thursday night.
10. Greg has a BSJ Q&A set for Friday afternoon. Get your questions in now, because it's going to be epic.
