BSJ Daily Briefing 08.08.18: Red Sox get crazy late, keep winning; Patriots pass plan in focus taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

(Adam Richins for BSJ)

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I get ready to count Tom Brady's meaningful snaps today on one hand ...

  • So, yeah, was checking in and out on the Sox during the course of the night and, after J.D. Martinez's dong, figured the game was in the bag — even after Matt Barnes' adventures in the eighth inning. Tuned back in after the game, and it was 10-7 Sox in 10. Wait ... what?

  • It's obviously becoming more and more of an adventure in the bullpen. I'm OK with it considering the lead and you'd rather have this in August than October, but Sean McAdam is a little more alarmed. Can't blame him. It's all legit.

  • Before everyone starts taking my column out of context today, the point of it was (if you read it) to say that all those people who are waiting to criticize Brady (some already are) for screwing up the Patriots offense because he skipped OTAs, you're old news. They've had plenty of time to make up for it if they wanted to, but Bill Belichick has chosen not to, for whatever reason. So blame him, not Brady, if things get off to a less-than-ideal start.

  • In the column, I also talked about the possibility of Brady having an injury that has needed this monitoring ... there could be something to that (not that anyone's going to tell us that).

  • This is a good story by Chris Price on the pass rush and the new consultant.

  • Greg Monroe, we hardly knew ye. See you in Toronto.

  • The Revs are going to be sellers at this deadline, aren't they? That should go over well.
