BSJ Daily Briefing 08.01.18: Pats return to field, Sox stand pat on bullpen help

Good morning! Some scattered thoughts as we start August off  

• Tough timing for the Chris Sale injury right as the Yankees come to town. Will be interesting to see how much the Sox keep him out for despite the fact they are downplaying the injury.


• No movement from the Sox on trade deadline day after acquiring Ian Kinsler. Some extra bullpen depth would have been nice, but one plan fell through on that front, as Sean McAdam reports.


• A rare Wednesday day off for the Red Sox. Can't remember the last time that happened.


• Nice to see Middleton headed up to the rafters next season. Feels like that was overdue.


• Pats back to work in Foxboro today. They'll be practicing for at least the next three days, leading into the preseason opener next week. Greg and Chris have you covered as always down there.
