ONE TAKE PRICE WILL PROBABLY REGRET LATER
The way the job market is shaping up, at this point Matt Patricia has a better shot at landing a head coaching gig this offseason than Josh McDaniels does. (Although given the depth of the blood feud between the Patriots and Colts a decade or so ago, I still can’t quite believe we’re talking about a New England coordinator potentially taking over in Indy. Time heals all wounds, I guess.) But Patricia needs to make up his mind about Detroit, as it sounds like the Lions are getting understandably antsy as a potential romance between the Pats DC and the Giants starts to ramp up. The New England defensive coordinator has apparently knocked it out of the park when it comes to the interview process, which is no surprise. He’s crazy smart, and can be an engaging guy. It’s going to happen for him sooner rather than later. The concern here is that he might be letting a pretty good gig pass him by while he waits on a New York team that sounds like it has yet to decide on a group that includes McDaniels and Vikings OC Pat Shurmur. The Senior Bowl is a couple of weeks away, and before you know it, there will be the combine and the start of free agency. Everyone involved in the process needs to make up their mind and things have to start to move forward. Time management is everything in coaching -- just as Andy Reid -- and the clock is ticking on this situation.
