BSJ Daily Briefing 09.16.17: Up all night taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

(Kim Klement/USA TODAY Sports)

You gotta love the Sox.

With the Yankees having already won to close to 2.5 games, the Sox scored three runs in the ninth to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

And they kept playing.

And kept playing.

And kept playing.

They took a one-run lead in the 14th.

Then gave it back, to keep playing.

And, finally, they scored seven runs in the 15th to win it past 1 a.m. and after more than six hours.

Seriously?

It was the fourth time this season they have played at least 15 innings — the first time they've done that since 1951.

Instead of the Kardiac Kids, these are the "We'll Play For Two Days If You Let Us Senior Citizens." Kind of apropos, given the locale.

I mean, is there anything more depressing in baseball than having to play for six hours at The Trop when you're just trying to get to the postseason with your pitching intact? It's baseball's equivalent to, "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

Well, at least they got the win. Playing for that long and letting the Yankees get closer would have been brutal.

And away we go...

CATCHING UP

Bruins

Joe McDonald is on the scene at Warrior Ice Arena (say hi if you see him there) and doing a great job. I recommend you check back for all his comprehensive camp coverage.

The Bruins want Tuukka Rask to help more with the offense. Yup, you read that right.

David Pastrnak will be on the ice in the morning session on a line with David Krejci.
