Final: Reds 9, Red Sox 8 - Too little, too late for Boston's offense after Rodriguez struggles out of the pen
The Red Sox staged a late comeback attempt with three runs in the seventh and a huge five-run ninth inning, but the comeback ultimately fell short after Triston Casas went down swinging. Brayan Bello struggled in the start, and the bullpen struggled, especially Joely Rodríguez, who gave up five runs in just 0.2 innings in the seventh to put the game seemingly out of reach. Kiké Hernández had two errors at shortstop. Raimel Tapia and Reese McGuire were the catalysts of the comeback.

WHAT'S UP
The Red Sox are back at Fenway for a six-game homestand, beginning with the Reds and ending with the Rays, after a rocky 4-5 swing through the west coast.
Boston placed RHP Corey Kluber on the paternity list and recalled LHP Ryan Sherriff from Triple-A Worcester. Adam Duvall will begin his rehab assignment with the WooSox tonight. He is expected to slot in at DH.
Brayan Bello has faced Cincinnati once, last season, when he allowed one run and eight hits with five strikeouts and a walk in five innings of a win.
Nick Senzel was a late scratch for the Reds with right-knee soreness. Kevin Newman will slot in at 3B and seventh in the order.
Ben Lively has faced Boston once, in 2017 when he was with Philadelphia. He gave up three runs on eight hits in seven innings of work. He has not faced any batter currently in the Sox' lineup.
