Final: Tigers 10, Red Sox 9 (F/11) - Red Sox allow walk off home run to Baez in back-and-forth extra innings game taken at BSJ Headquarters (Top Red Sox)

In one of the most dramatic games of the season so far, Boston's bullpen can't get the win as the Red Sox lose another extra innings game 10-9 against the Detroit Tigers.

Boston and Detroit exchanged runs throughout this entire game. The Tigers scored the first run in the 1st inning off starter Brayan Bello, but Wilyer Abreu tied the game the next inning.

The Tigers then added another run in the 3rd inning, but Alex Bregman slammed a solo home run to tie the game for his 10th home run of the season.

Both teams traded runs again with Torkelson recording a home run of his own in the 4th inning. However, Ceddanne Rafaela knocked an RBI double followed by a Jarren Duran RBI single which gave the Red Sox their first lead of the game with a score of 4-3 in the 5th.

Bello ended his outing pitching 4.2 innings allowing six hits on two earned runs. While he wasn't able to have a clean inning on the mound, he limited extra base hits keeping the Red Sox in the game.

After Justin Wilson came into the game to finish the 5th inning for Bello, the bullpen miscues for Boston returned.

Alex Cora decided to pitch Garrett Whitlock in the 6th inning, and the righty allowed a three run homer to Javier Baez giving Detroit the lead again.

The Red Sox had to surmount another come-from-behind in spite of the bullpen, and they developed some life in the 8th inning. With David Hamilton up to bat, Boston's shortstop delivered a two-run blast which tied the game again.

On the mound, clean innings from Brennan Bernardino, Justin Slaten, and Aroldis Chapman brought the game into extra innings tied 6-6.

In the 10th inning, the Red Sox had their first extra innings lead. After a leadoff Carlos Narvaez single that brought the ghost runner to third base, Rafaela recorded another RBI giving Boston another lead.

Cora decided to pitch Greg Weissert to close the game for the Red Sox, and the righty wasn't able to get the job done allowing an RBI hit to Trey Sweeney once again tying the game up 7-7.

In the 11th inning, the Red Sox once again gave run support to their bullpen. Kristian Campbell snuck a two-run home run past the right field wall, and the Red Sox gave themselves an extra run to try to get the victory and split the series against the Tigers.

Cora decided to stick with Weissert in the Bottom of the 11th, and this decision came back to bite Boston as Baez slammed another three-run homer to walk it off against the Red Sox.

Another game where Cora makes questionable choices with his bullpen that lead to runs on the board. Boston's lineup came to play this entire game with nearly every bat in the lineup coming up with crucial hits when it mattered. The Red Sox have played the most extra inning games among AL teams and the bullpen is definitely fatigued, but the decision to keep Weissert in for an extra inning will be a question talked about amongst Red Sox fans all tomorrow.

Boston will look to prevent a sweep against Detroit facing off against reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Scubal. First pitch will again take place at 6:40 p.m.

WHAT'S UP

After yesterday's start, Tanner Houck is the first pitcher in MLB history to allow 11+ runs in a start of fewer than 3 IP twice in the same season.

David Hamilton will play shortstop today. Trevor Story will miss his fourth game this season, as he is hitting just 9-for-74 (.122) with 28 strikeouts and a .350 OPS in his last 18 games. His OPS has dropped from .894 on April 21 to .645 now.
