The Blue Jays walk it off against the Red Sox despite Boston having a six run lead for the majority of the game.

For the first half of the game, the Red Sox dominated playing similar to yesterday's game. However, dry offense and three home runs from Toronto became the turning point in this game.

In the 1st inning, the Red Sox went out to a 2-0 lead with Alex Bregman hitting a solo home run, his second in consecutive games.

Boston's offense followed it up in the next inning double their lead with RBI's from Jarren Duran and Rafael Devers.

The Red Sox finished producing runs in the 6th inning with a home run from Carlos Narvaez which brought the game to 6-0.

In his first start in over 500 days, Lucas Giolito had a strong start coming back from both Tommy John and a hamstring injury in Spring Training. However, an ugly final inning on the mound changed the outcome of the game, as Giolito allowed back to back home runs which brought the score to 6-3 going into the 7th inning.

Aside from his final inning, Giolito pitched 5 scoreless innings while also striking out seven batters in the game. His control was there, and he consistently painted corners with his fastball throughout the night.

Taking over for Giolito in the 7th inning, Garrett Whitlock allowed a 3-run home run which tied the game up. Whitlock was able to pitch a scoreless inning in the 8th and Aroldis Chapman had a scoreless outing in the 9th, and the game went into extras.

The Red Sox didn't get any hits in the 10th inning, and Alejandro Kirk walked it off for the Blue Jays against Justin Slaten.

Another game where the Red Sox can't put it all together and end up shooting themselves in the foot. Based on how the beginning of this game went, the Red Sox should've easily came out with the win, but now the series is tied.

Tomorrow, Tanner Houck will pitch the final game of the series. First pitch will be at 7:07 p.m.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox play their second game of their series against the Toronto Blue Jays with Lucas Giolito making his debut with Boston after recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Giolito signed in December 2023 for two years, $38.5 million but he spent the entire 2024 season on the 60-day IL.

Brennan Bernardino was placed on the bereavement list because of the Giolito move.

“I like where we’re at,” Cora said before Wednesday’s game. “I like where we’re going. We’ve just gotta be patient. It’s not pedal to the metal. It’s not. We have to be very patient with the group letting guys develop. The bullpen is becoming a weapon here."
