Final: Red Sox 5, Braves 1 - Red Sox snap losing streak limiting Braves to 1 run
The Red Sox finally get back in the in win column with a 5-1 win against the Braves to start the series.
After a disappointing stretch of baseball against the Brewers and Orioles, the Red Sox played a clean game of baseball receiving support from their bullpen and the bottom of the order.
Lucas Giolito got the start today, and the righty only allowed 1 earned run in 4.2 innings pitches. Giolito's lone earned run came in the 1st inning with Matt Olson recording the RBI. This was a tough inning for Giolito who faced some traffic on the base path, but he finished the inning stranding two runners.
Boston had chances with runners on base in the first three innings, but they finally produced their first runs from an unlikely bat. Trevor Story slammed a 431 foot two-run home run against Braves starter Grant Holmes to give the Red Sox the lead in the 4th inning.

On the mound, Giolito continued putting runners on base, but he was able to get out of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings scoreless. Giolito pitched the 5th inning, but was taken out of the game for Justin Wilson who struck out Olson to end the inning.
In the 6th inning, Carlos Narváez hit a double and was eventually drove home by Abraham Toro who also recorded a double to extend Boston's lead.

The Red Sox received scoreless outings from Garrett Whitlock and Greg Weissert giving Aroldis Chapman an opportunity to come away with the save.
Before that, Rafael Devers extended Boston's lead more driving in runners with the bases loaded to put the Red Sox up 5-1.

And a 1-2-3 inning from Chapman won the Red Sox the first game of the series.
Overall, this was a great bounce back victory for the Red Sox. Boston's supporting cast really came up big to win this game. Both Kristian Campbell and Ceddanne Rafaela recorded multiple hits on the night. Toro was the hottest hitter though recording three hits on the night to go with his RBI.
Defensively, the Red Sox were incredible. Story made a huge ground out play at short stop in the 7th inning stopping the Braves from scoring a second run, and Marcelo Mayer followed it up with a highlight-reel catch at 3rd base in the next inning.

WHAT'S UP
The Red Sox look to snap their losing streak in their road series against the Atlanta Braves.
The Red Sox placed veteran reliever Liam Hendrikson the 15-day injured list before Friday’s game. Hendriks has been dealing with multiple hernias that went to about May 8th.
Boston brings up Nick Burdi from Worcester to replace Worcester.
Craig Breslow on Roman Anthony: “We need to be mindful of the environment that Roman would be coming into, and the pressure that we’d be putting on a 21-year-old in the midst of a losing streak — to come up and save the team,” Breslow said. “Roman’s time is coming, and I don’t think there’s any question about that. So we have to figure out what is best for the organization and what is best for him.”
