Trevor's Game Notes:

Lack of Lefties: The Red Sox lost their final game against Yankees for season 5-2, going back to a .500 record. In the 4th inning, Gleyber Torres and Aaron Judge both hit home runs against Red Sox  that put the game 4-0. Meanwhile for the Red Sox, their offense couldn't get much going against Carlos Rodon who pitched 5.1 innings pitched only allowing 2 earned runs. Boston's only runs of the game came from a 2-run home run from Tyler O'Neill in the 5th inning.

This entire season, the Red Sox haven't produced much offense against left-handed pitching, and this game was another example of that. Even on the pitching side, Boston's lack of lefty bullpen arms have came back to bite them too. Bailey Horn pitched the 7th inning trying to get the Red Sox out of a jam. However, the rookie recently called up from Worcester gave up a run and wasn't able to complete the inning, as Greg Weissert became the third pitcher in the inning.

The Red Sox will travel to Florida starting a series with another AL East Divison foe in the Tampa Bay Rays. Boston is still 4.5 games back.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox won against the Yankees Saturday afternoon, scoring 7 runs against the reigning AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole. With the bases empty and 1 out in the 4th inning, the Yankees decided to intentionally walk Rafael Devers. Following the intentional walk, the Red Sox scored 3 runs in the same inning and then scored another 4 runs in the 5th inning.

“He caught me by surprise,” said Devers (through interpreter Carlos Villoria Benítez. “I didn’t expect that from a future Hall of Famer. To say it some way, he panicked a little bit.

Left-handed reliever Zach Penrod made his MLB debut yesterday in the 8th inning pitching a scoreless outing.

Masataka Yoshida will bat sixth as the designated hitter as the Red Sox try to split a four-game series in the Bronx and remain in the wild card race.
