Trevor's Game Notes:

Cole's Kryptonite: The Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees 7-1 in the second game of their series finale in the Bronx. Reigning AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole took the mound for New York, allowing all of Boston's 7 runs in only 4.1 innings pitched. With the Yankees up a run in the 4th inning, New York elected to intentionally walk Rafael Devers with 1 out. Devers has had a great track record against Cole at the plate, which was probably why the Yankees made this decision. Following Devers' and Tyler O'Neill's walk, Masataka Yoshida stepped up to the plate and smashed an RBI double that tied the game for Boston. The Red Sox would then take the lead after Wilyer Abreu hit a 2-run single that brought home O'Neill and Yoshida. Boston wasn't done putting off offense, as the club followed up a 3-run inning with a 4-run inning in the 5th. Devers again came up to bat delivering a 2-run single of his own that gave Boston a 5-1 lead. Two at-bats later, and Yoshida would then collect another RBI for his day also hitting a 2-run single. That hit would end Cole's day on the mound, and Boston would end up tying the series against New York.

The Red Sox will wrap up their series in New York tomorrow at 1:35 p.m.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox are 4-4 in their last 8 games following a season-long 5-game losing streak.

The Red Sox fell to the New York Yankees 5-4 at Yankee Stadium on Friday night. Boston led 4-0 with rookie Richard Fitts throwing 5 scoreless innings and both Masataka Yoshida and Trevor Story  both hitting 2-run home runs, but the bullpen gave up five runs in the seventh inning which was highlighted by an Aaron Judge Grand Slam.

The Red Sox failed to gain any ground in the American League wild card race, as FanGraphs lists Boston’s postseason odds at just 5%
