Final: Red Sox 3, Yankees 0 - Devers blasts 2 solo home runs in shutout victory against the Yankees taken at BSJ Headquarters (Top Red Sox)

Trevor's Game Notes:

Pitcher's Duel: Pitching shined in this game for both the Yankees and the Red Sox. Both Luis Gill and Kutter Crawford would cruise through the first half of this game, getting consecutive innings where they'd only face the minimum batters. Both starters would pitch into the 7th inning, but Crawford would end up being the lone starter to allow 0 runs in the game. A quality performance not only from the starters but also the Red Sox bullpen too. Justin Slaten and Kenley Jansen would take over for Crawford in the 8th and 9th inning to keep the game scoreless for the Red Sox. An amazing game for Crawford.

Yankee Crusher: Rafael Devers was the main catalyst for the Red Sox offense, as he would hit two solo home runs in what was an amazing series from the now three-time all star. Devers ends the series hitting three home runs at Yankee Stadium. A great series that also saw him record his 1,000 career hit.

The Red Sox head back to Fenway to face off against the Oakland Athletics starting tomorrow.

WHAT'S UP

The Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees 14-4 in game two of their series in the Bronx. Cohasset native Ben Rice had a big game for New York, as he smashed three home runs and seven RBI's. Starter Josh Winckowski lasted only 3 ⅔ innings, and the bullpen wasn't able to stop the Yankees' offense.

Winckowski left at 66 pitches with the game tied. Brennan Bernardino and Weissert then combined to allow seven runs in the fifth inning. Boston’s bullpen has pitched a lot of innings recently. They pitched in a 12-inning win in Miami on Thursday and a 10-inning win Friday when starter Tanner Houck lasted only 3 ⅓ innings.

Rafael Devers tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third inning with an RBI single. It marked his 1,000th career hit. Of his first 1,000 hits, 44% went for extra-base hits. Devers’ 1,001st career hit was a demolished extra-base hit. His solo homer in the fifth inning put the Red Sox ahead 4-3 and knocked Yankees ace Gerrit Cole out of the game.

The Red Sox will have three representatives at this year’s All-Star Game in Texas. Third baseman Rafael Devers made the team for the third time and starter Tanner Houck and outfielder Jarren Duran were both elected to their first Midsummer Classic.

The Red Sox swung a minor trade with the Tigers in an effort to add some pitching depth Saturday night. Boston acquired 30-year-old right-hander Trey Wingenter from Detroit in exchange for Single-A righty C.J. Weins, according to a club announcement.
