The Boston Bruins defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 with Jeremy Swayman picking up the shutout. After a depressing trade deadline which saw Brad Marchand, Charlie Coyle, and Brandon Carlo leave the team, the new-looked Bruins played with a lot of energy en route to the win.

After a scoreless first period on both sides, the Bruins got on the board first with Cole Koepke getting his first goal of the day. Casey Mittelstadt, who was given to Bruins in the Coyle trade, intercepted a break-out pass from Tampa Bay in their defensive zone, dishing the puck to Koepke who tucked it past Andrei Vasilevskiy for the first goal of the game.

Still scoreless in the third period, Tampa Bay tried to tie the game, but strong defense and shot blocking on Boston's side kept it scoreless.. The Bruins added onto their lead when Mark Kastelic attempted to dump the puck into Tampa's defensive zone which deflected off an opposing defenseman.

With five minutes left in the game, the Lightning pulled Vasilevskiy in a final attempt to get back in the game. However, Nikita Zadorov fired a long shot in the empty net sealing the win for Boston.

That wasn't the last goal the Bruins scored in this game. In the final minutes, Koepke scored his second goal finalizing the score.

After a depressing 48 hours, this was a great game from the Bruins. With a lot of new faces in the lineup, the Bruins played with a lot of energy blocking shots, winning puck battles, and playing the body which resulted in this win. Even when they were up 3-0, the Bruins were still playing with passion until the final horn which is a promising sign to see.  Defensively, this team played superb in Swayman's shutout win, especially on the back end. While this Bruins team looks a lot more bleak compared to years previous, this was a fun game that provided optimism in the new guys that arrived to this team, especially Mittlestadt.

The Bruins will play their next game on Tuesday against the Florida Panthers in Boston. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m.

PREGAME NOTES

The Boston Bruins take on the Tampa Bay Lightning after a historic trade deadline that saw Brad Marchand, Charlie Coyle, Brandon Carlo and Justin Brazeau.

In one of the most shocking moves of the trade deadline, the Bruins traded captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers for a conditional 2027 2nd round pick. Additionally, Brandon Carlo was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Charlie Coyle was traded to the Colorado Avalanche.
