Final: Bruins 4, Blue Jackets 0 - Swayman picks up shutout as Bruins split home-and-home series against Columbus
After a 6-2 loss yesterday against the Blue Jackets, the Bruins redeemed themselves tonight as they defeat Columbus 4-0 with Jeremy Swayman picking up the save. In this game, the Bruins were a much different team compared to yesterday.
In the first period, Boston scored their first goal from Justin Brazeau. With a good forecheck from Brazeau's line, Brazeau tapped the puck into an open net for the only goal of the period. Despite not recording an assist, Fabian Lysell, who made his NHL debut tonight, helped with the forecheck which resulted in the goal on his first shift in the NHL.

In the second period, the Bruins picked up their offensive momentum adding two more goals to their lead. With Columbus trying to get the puck out of their defensive zone, Morgan Geekie intercepted a pass at the top of the slot and sniped Boston's second goal of the game.

Geekie also contributed in the third goal, as the left winger gave David Pastrnak a breakaway pass which Pastrnak scored on.

The Bruins added another goal to their lead in the third period from Cole Koepke. On an odd man rush, Koepke carried the puck into the offensive zone on the right side of the ice and sniped the puck to the left corner of the net for the fourth and final goal of the game.

Overall, this was a much better game for the Bruins. They played a much better defensive game limiting the Blue Jackets to only 18 shots, and Jeremy Swayman made the necessary saves in front of his team to complete the shutout. Boston also had better shots in this game which resulted in more goals. A great response after a demoralizing defeat to Columbus the previous night.
The Bruins will play their next game at 12 p.m. on New Year's Eve taking on the Capitals in Washington.

PREGAME NOTES
The Bruins take on the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second game of their home-and-home series. This is the final game between the Bruins and Blue Jackets this season.
It was a rough game for the Bruins yesterday, as they lost to the Blue Jackets 6-2. In the second period alone, Boston allowed four goals as they struggled to defend Columbus as they skated into the offensive zone.
In yesterday's game, Brad Marchand extended his point streak to 12 games, assisting on a goal from Charlie Coyle.
