The Bruins scored :36 into the first period thanks to Pavel Zacha who recorded his fifth goal on the season. McAvoy and Brad Marchand were credited with the assist. However, the rest of the period was sloppy for both teams as they had trouble with taking care of the puck which resulted in turnovers.

The sloppiness continued in the second period as Boston had too many penalties throughout the night. Boston finished the night committing eight penalties.
Nick Suzuki scored on the power play :24 into the third period to tie the game at one apiece. Shortly after, Brendan Gallagher scored at the 0:51 mark to give the Canadiens a 2-1 advantage. Montreal scored those two goals in just :27. Oskar Steen scored later in the period which would have tied it up at 2-2. However, it was wiped off the board due to goaltender interference. Brad Marchand saved the B's at the 12:58 mark when he tied the game at two apiece on the power play with his seventh goal of the season.
Montreal won it in overtime as Kaiden Guhle scored his first goal of the year 2:13 into the overtime period.
