Final: Blue Jays 7, Red Sox 3 - Red Sox lose both games in doubleheader against Blue Jays
Game 2 Recap
The Red Sox have lost their 5th game in a row, falling 7-3 in the second game of their doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays. Boston used an opener in this game, beginning their parade of bullpen arms with Zack Kelly, who pitched 3 scoreless innings. Following Kelly's exit in the 3rd inning, the Red Sox were the first team to get on the board after Triston Casas recorded an RBI single that brough home Jarren Duran from 3rd base. This would Boston's only run until the 8th inning, as Blue Jays' Starter Jose Berrios went on to pitch 7.2 innings striking out 6 Red Sox batters. After a scoreless 4th inning in relief from Justin Slaten, Brad Keller pitched the 5th iinning, allowing 5 runs that gave him the loss in the game. With two runners on base, Keller first allowed a 3-run home run against George Springer that traveled closely past the Pesky Pole. Rob Refsnyder would then record an error in left field that put a runner on 2nd base, and Addison Barger slapped an RBI single between 3rd and shortstop putting the game at 4-1. Overall, not a great game in the field for Boston. Ernie Clement followed it up with an RBI hit of his own that gave Keller his 5th run of the inning. Oddly enough, Keller would go on to pitch three more innings in relief going scoreless in that timespan. Meanwhile, Boston went scoreless on offense, not being able to generate offense until the second to last inning of the game. In the 8th inning with Berrios still in the game, Jarren Duran slammed a 2-run center field home run to cut the lead in half that ended Berrios day on the mound.

The Blue Jays would respond to Boston's potential comeback with a 2-run inning of their own. Chris Martin was the final relief pitcher for the Red Sox, and his first earned run came from a fiielding error made by himself where he failed to catch a ball thrown to first from Mickey Gasper. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would score on this miscue. Toronto's final run of the game came from an RBI single from Spencer Horwitz.
The Red Sox will continue their series against Toronto tomorrow at 7:10 p.m.

Game One Recap
The Red Sox fell to the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 at Fenway Park on Monday afternoon in game one of the doubleheader. This was a continuation in the top of the second inning when the game was suspended due to severe weather on June 26th. This game was scoreless until the seventh inning when George Springer hit a solo home run over the green monster that gave Toronto a 1-0 lead.

The Red Sox appeared to have taken a 1-0 lead when Rafael Devers hit a ball down the first base line when Brian Severn's throw nailed Devers in the back that rolled away and allowed Romy Gonzalez to score from second base.
However, home plate umpire Shane Livensparger called Devers out for interference. It is worth pointing out that Devers was running inside the baseline. Rob Refsnyder hit into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
Nick Pivetta went 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, and 2 earned runs but striking out 10 and walking none. Pivetta did his job and gave Boston a chance to win.
The Blue Jays extended their lead in the eighth inning when Luis Garcia took over on the mound and Vladimir Guerrero Jr hit a two-run RBI Double and Addison Barger hit a ground-rule double which scored Guerrero Jr.

Danny Jansen made MLB history becoming the first player to play for both teams in the same game. Jansen was not credited with an at-bat for the Blue Jays but Daulton Varsho was credited with the strikeout on two more pitches on the at-bat that Jansen started back on June 26th before the game was called.
Jarren Duran scored Boston's lone run on a solo shot in the eighth inning.

WHAT'S UP
The Red Sox were swept by ARI in a 3-game series over the weekend after going 4-3 on a 7-game road trip to BAL (2-2) and HOU (2-1).
They're 9-11 in their last 20 games, and 14-20 in 34 games since the All-Star break.
Game 1 today will be a continuation of the Red Sox' game that began on 6/26 vs. TOR, which was suspended with 1 out in the top of the 2nd inning (tied, 0-0).
At the point the game was suspended, Kutter Crawford was pitching to Danny Jansen with an 0-1 count and Davis Schneider on 1st base.
The game on 6/26 began at 7:12 p.m. and was stopped at 7:31 due to an extended period of severe weather in the Fenway area...After a delay of 1 hour and 48 minutes, the game was suspended at 9:19 p.m.
With a win in Game 1 today, the Red Sox would improve to 22-15-5 in series play (11-8-2 at home).
The Sox have been swept in 2 of their last 3 home series (8/23-25 vs. ARI, 8/9-11 vs. HOU).
Boston is 5-2-1 in its last 8 series, since 7/29, after going 0-3-0 in 3 series following the All-Star break.
The Red Sox have won or tied 18 of their last 24 series, beginning 5/30 (13-6-5).
Danny Jansen started as the Blue Jays' catcher in the game that was suspended on 6/26, but was traded to the Red Sox on 7/27 in exchange for 3 minor leaguers.
Jansen would become the 1st player in Major League history play for both teams in the same game.If Jansen is the Red Sox' catcher when the game resumes, he would be catching an at-bat that he began as the hitter (0-1 count).
Pivetta will be making his 1st relief appearance since 9/2/23 at KC (3.0 IP, 2 H, ER, HR, 5 SO)...Posted a 3.07 ERA (19 ER/55.2 IP) over 22 relief outings in 2023.
Boston DFAd Joely Rodriguez for assignment (second time this season) and have selected Brad Keller from AAA to the active MLB roster.
Justin Slaten could be in play to be activated for the second game tonight. Boston will get a 27th player for that game.
