Vrabel said a couple of interesting things after the game: First off, he was asked about taking a timeout and talking to the defense during the middle of a drive when the Eagles were running through them.

"I saw dogshit defense, and I wanted to talk to them," Vrabel said. "And I figured that if I didn't call a timeout, that I wouldn't be able to get what I wanted to say off my chest."

And Vrabel was asked about not playing the starters in the two home preseason games, and he revealed what he thinks about his roster.

"I don't think we have a very deep team," Vrabel said. "So I think we have to make sure that we're preparing our football team and that we're doing everything that we can to keep our best players available. And if that means playing Thursday as part of preparation, that's what we'll do."

Kyle Williams scores for second-straight game: The second-year receiver continues to be a bit inconsistent — you'd like to see him play a little more physical fighting for the ball — but you can't teach speed. Williams got behind the Eagles' defense and Tommy DeVito hit him in stride for a 69-yard touchdown, his second score of the preseason.

Eliot Wolf addresses the Christian Gonzalez contract situation: The team's Executive Vice President of Player Personnel made a visit to the TV booth with the McCourty twins, and Wolf was asked about the Patriots' fourth-year cornerback.

"Each side is trying to do what's right for them," Wolf said. "Obviously, Christian's a tremendous player that you know we've been on record multiple times saying we want him to be here, and that hasn't changed. So we're going to continue working with this representation to try to get something done."

The "each side" thing would indicate that there hasn't been a lot of movement on this.

Patriots starters and others don't play: Most of the Patriots, including Drake Maye, were suited up (without leg pads) and took part in some drills before the game.
