Jabril Peppers was arrested early Saturday morning on multiple charges, including strangulation and possession of cocaine. He was arraigned in a Quincy district court today, where he pled not guilty to all charges. He was ordered to stay away from the alleged female victim, believed to be his girlfriend. She told police Peppers repeatedly struck her and choked her six times. His case was continued to Nov. 22, with his “appearance waived.” If he’s arrested again, the judge warned, he can be “held."
"We informed the NFL, and we're still gathering information," said Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo. "I'm not sure how the league and how we are going to handle that going forward. We should find out some more information over the next few days."
According to the Braintree (MA) police, they were called to a residential address amidst reports of a disturbance between two people.
Upon further investigation of the situation, they arrested Peppers on assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of cocaine.
The victim was treated at the scene and released (condition unknown).
The 29-year-old safety was downgraded by the team Saturday under the guise of a shoulder injury (he was on the injury report all week). Mayo said Peppers called him that morning.
"He's not in the building today," said Mayo. "You know, he has his appearance and things like that. But as we gather information, he can definitely be in the building. Like, we don't know enough to say he shouldn't be in the building."
Peppers inked a three-year extension this summer for $24 million. He joined the team as a free agent in the spring of 2022, and was voted a team captain before the regular season started.
