NORMAN — Rhamondre Stevenson chooses to look at the bright side of the journey that’s led him to the NFL Draft, which begins its three-day run with the first round Thursday.

The former OU running back’s career has included a slew of road bumps. A broken foot cost him games in high school and nearly two years away from the sport before resuming his career at Cerritos College in California. Then a six-game suspension kept him out of the Peach Bowl following the 2019 season and the first five games last season.

So while Stevenson is older than most players in this year’s draft class, he’s also got less wear and tear on his body than many of the running backs available.

“I think I have a lot of tread on my tires still,” Stevenson said. “I’m not a worn-down back. I didn’t have 500 carries in college. I think that plays to my advantage.”

Stevenson had 165 carries for the Sooners, averaging 7.2 yards per carry and scoring 13 touchdowns in 19 games. He also caught 28 passes.
