Last season, Mitch Moreland was the Red Sox' hottest hitter in the month of April and almost single-handedly won some games with his bat in the early going, belting five homers and knocking in 12 runs in the team's first 13 games.
He'd like to replicate that again in 2020, when, thanks to the 60-game schedule, getting out of the gate fast will take on added importance.
"I think if someone figured out how to get off to a good start, they would probably try to do it every year,'' said Moreland. "I don't know if there's any rhyme or reason or anything I learned from that. But it is very important to get off to a good start. We've got 60 games, so we've got to make every one of them count. There's been a little bit of urgency in everybody's work and everybody's preparation because of that.
"It's going to be time to roll, but at the same time, we're trying to figure out a way to just take it one day at a time even though it's just 60 games. If we can figure out a way to slow it down day-to-day and just make it happen, maybe that will be the key to getting off to a good start.''
