PREGAME NOTES:
- The Bruins are going to be shorthanded going into the final game of 2019, as Bruce Cassidy noted on Monday that Torey Krug, Charlie McAvoy, David Krejci and Connor Clifton will all sit out of the matchup. Cassidy did note that Krejci has not been ruled out for Thursday’s home matchup against the Blue Jackets, while Krug potentially could have been cleared for Tuesday’s tilt. For now, though, Boston is not trying to risk any further injury to Krug.
- With Boston’s blue line in rough shape, the Bruins opted to call Jeremy Lauzon up from Providence on Monday. Lauzon, 22, has logged 35 games down in the AHL this year, recording a goal and adding nine assists. He will likely slot in on Boston’s second D pairing with Matt Grzelcyk on Tuesday. Danton Heinen, who logged three shifts in the third period on Sunday, will be scratched. Jaroslav Halak will get the start in net for the Bruins, who are looking to win their fourth straight game.
- The cellar-dwelling Devils have picked up points in five of their last seven games, but have lost both of their games against Boston this season — outscored by an 8-1 margin in those previous two meetings.
- Kyle Palmieri leads the team in scoring with 27 points in 38 games. Nikita Gusev and Nico Hischier are tied for second with 22 points.
