PREGAME NOTES:

  • The Bruins will be shorthanded again up front on Sunday as they look to extend their point streak to 11 games, as Patrice Bergeron will sit out due to that nagging lower-body injury. David Backes will make his return after missing the previous 13 games due to a suspected concussion, with the veteran slated to skate on a third line with Sean Kuraly and Anders Bjork.

  • To make room for Backes, Jack Studnicka was assigned to Providence, with John Moore also assigned to the AHL on a LTI conditioning loan. Tuukka Rask will start in net for Boston, who beat the Habs, 8-1, last week up in Montreal.

  • The Canadiens, who lost Victor Mete in a loss to the Flyers over the weekend, have plummeted in the standings — with the Habs now stuck in a seven-game winless streak.
