Revs, RSL share points in ugly draw: In a match Bruce Arena had dubbed a must-win during his Zolak & Bertrand radio spot on Thursday, the Revolution fell flat against a second-choice Real Salt Lake side Saturday night, settling for a scoreless draw in front of 24,270, the second-largest crowd — well, for league matches — at Gillette for the Soccer Sons of Robert Kraft. The draw keeps New England seventh in the Eastern Conference through 31 matches (10-10-11), with three matches remaining in the regular season.
Three shots mustered: It only takes one, of course, but that didn’t matter against a bunkered-in RSL side. New England only had three shots on target for the entire game: one by Wilfried Zahibo, one by Teal Bunbury, and one by second-half sub Gustavo Bou. There were several other opportunities, including a DeJuan Jones chance in the 82nd, Brandon Bye off the woodwork in the 85th, and a gilt-edged chance for Bou in second-half stoppage time that he sent flying into Norfolk.
