Bedard's Daily Briefing 09.18.19: Patriots o-line shuffle, will the team just keep going for it? A Yaz homers at Fenway

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I wonder if Phillip Dorsett realizes that I'm here for him ;) ...

• So Isaiah Wynn was placed on IR with turf toe, and the Patriots had to reach their quota for journeymen guard/tackle combinations so they signed some guy from the Bucs, who sounds a lot like the other guys they already traded for/signed.


• I'm going to guess that now that Wynn is out for an extended period of time, they'll move Joe Thuney over to left tackle ... but that comes with some consequences. The Patriots have tried to avoid the old "weaken two spots to shore up one" to this point, but they might not have another choice.


• If only there was a Pro Bowl left tackle out there available and doing nothing. Oh yeah, there is. Trent Williams. If the Patriots were willing to marginally screw up their future cap and pay a question character like Antonio Brown to go for 19-0, why not just go the extra mile and get Williams too?


• I wouldn't call Wynn a bust yet or anything yet. Sometimes young players just go through this and then they're durable the rest of the way.


• A mixed bag reaction on my Phillip Dorsett column from yesterday. C'est la vie. I don't write to be popular or for the approval of Twitter eggs or those with Patriots avatars, I write what I think with 20 years of experience covering this league. And, if anything, I don't root for the cloth, I root for the players that do things the right way. And if Dorsett goes from playing 80 percent of the snaps to 12 percent to make room for some unstable flavor of the month, only to be asked to save the team's bacon again, I just think that's wrong. And you can't compare this to Amendola, who played more snaps when healthy.


• Another long night at Fenway ... at least you had the Yaz story to enjoy.


• Stop for a moment and wonder how Peter Chiarelli would have handled the McAvoy/Carlo situation.


• Celtics and the cap.
