Final: Giants 7, Red Sox 6 (15) taken at Fenway Park (Red Sox)

Pinch-hitter Alex Dickerson delivered a sacrifice fly to the warning track in center, scoring Donovan Solano from third and sending the San Francisco Giants to a 7-6 win over the Red Sox in a marathon 15- inning game which lasted almost six hours.

The Giants appeared to have the game won two innings previous when they pushed a run across against Andrew Cashner, but the Red Sox answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning when Juan Centeno drew a bases-loaded walk to forge another tie.

The Giants used 13 pitchers -- including four alone in the 13th inning.

Mike Yastrzemski, grandson of Red Sox Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski, made his Fenway debut in the ballpark his grandfather played for 23 seasons and homered into the center field bleachers in the fourth.

WHEN: 7:10 p.m.
WHERE: Fenway Park

IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:

12:22   After  falling behind in the top of the 13th, the Red Sox improbably tie the game in the bottom of the inning when Juan Centeno -- of all people -- draws a pinch-hit, bases-loaded walk. Bruce Bochy, who is retiring in less than two weeks, treated the bottom of the 13th like Game 7 of the World Series, using four different pitchers.

11:51    The much-maligned Red Sox bullpen has now thrown eight consecutive scoreless innings.

11:34   Bradley scales the left-center scoreboard to take extra bases away from Brandon Belt. Ho-hum

11:00  Diving stop by Marco Hernandez prevents the go-ahead run from scoring as Hernandez records the final out of the inning at first.

10:48 For the 15th time this year -- or exactly once every 10 games -- the Red Sox go to extra innings.

9:20  Consecutive doubles by Mitch Moreland (to LF) and Christian Vazquez (ground rule, RF) account for two runs and pull the Sox to within a run.

9:11   Frightening moment as Sam Travis motors to third on a triple, but along the way, losing his helmet on the basepath then takes a relay throw off the back of his head as he slides into third. Was dazed for a minute or two, but walked off the field under his own power, replaced by Gorkys Hernandez. That triple, incidentally, snapped a 0-for-21 hitless streak.

8:48 Bradley homers over the visitor's bullpen and is one homer away from giving the Sox six players with 20 or more home runs.

8:29  Well, that ranks up there with the special Fenway moments: Yastrzemski homered into the CF bleachers at the ballpark that his grandfather called home for 23 years. Wow.

8:10  Control issues dog Eovaldi as two walks to the first three hitters at the start of the inning both come around to score as part of a three-run third.

7:51  Red Sox load the bases on three consecutive one-out walks and Jackie Bradley Jr. lines a 2-and-2 pitch to left, scoring Brock Holt and tying the game.

7:14 With all the attention understandably fixated on Mike Yastrzemski's first inning at-bat, Brandon Belt steals the spotlight and hits the first pitch Nathan Eovaldi and sends it into the first row of the Monster Seats.

WHAT'S UP: The Red Sox carry a three-game winning streak into their second-to-last home series of the year...This series represents just the third visit to Fenway for the Giants since the introduction of interleague play. San Francisco was here in 2007 and 2016...The Red Sox are 5-0 in those games...All-time, the Sox are 11-5 in interleague play with the Giants, having won the last five series....In his last seven starts against NL teams, starter Nathan Eovaldi is 2-0 with a 1.49 ERA....The Red Sox are 10 homers shy of matching their all-time single season mark. They have 228; the record is 238, set in 2003...J.D. Martinez needs three RBI to record his fourth season with 35 or more homers and 100 or more RBI. He reached those level in 2015, 2017 and 2018...He would become the ninth Red Sox player to reach that in multiple seasons....Xander Bogaerts and Mitch Moreland have three-game hitting streaks...Rafael Devers is 0-for-9, as is Marco Hernandez...The Sox are 6-3 in Eovaldi's nine starts this season....He has a 3.38 ERA over his last three outings...Stephen Vogt is 4-for-9 lifetime against Eovaldi while Brandon Belt is 2-for-12 with three strikeouts.

PRE-GAME NOTES:

  • The Sox were set to meet with David Price (left wrist cist) before game-time to go over a course of action for remainder of the season. Price is still unable to properly grip a changeup or cutter and it seems as though the Sox are moving closer to officially shutting him down for the season. Alex Cora also acknowledged that, given how long this has lingered, it's likely Price will need some sort of surgical procedure after the season.

  • Mookie Betts missed his third straight game with left foot inflammation. He could return to the lineup in Tampa Bay Friday as the DH.

  • Michael Chavis (side) took BP in the cage and could be active for the weekend.

  • Heath Hembree (forearm) threw a bullpen, will have a simulated game later in the week and could return to the mound when the Sox are in Texas next week.
