Revs salvage a point, stay sixth in the East for another week: It looked incredibly bleak, but once again, the Revolution got something out of nothing with Saturday night’s 1-1 draw against Toronto FC. The tie puts New England at 10-9-9 on the season with 39 points, good enough to remain in sixth position, two points ahead of eighth-place Montreal — and with two games in hand on L’Impact, who lost, 3-0, to DC United. Not only that, the Revs are two points behind New York Red Bulls, who lost, 2-0, to visiting Colorado Saturday night — but New England’s favorite soccer sons have a game in hand on them. Six games to go. The draw is also New England’s eighth straight home game against the Reds where the Revolution have earned at least a point going back to October 25, 2014.
Benezet gets first MLS goal to put Toronto ahead: After 74 minutes, New England and Toronto were destined to share the points, albeit with a scoreless draw to their credit. But there was scoring in this one, as a Quentin Westberg save on Gustavo Bou turned into a quick counterattack. And with the Revs defense trying to get back, Nicolas Benezet, in his fourth appearance, headed home a Matt Turner deflection in to give the tourists from Toronto a 1-0 lead.
