Another loan: Revs send Isaac Angking to USL's Charlotte Independence taken at BSJ Headquarters (Revolution)

For the second time in as many days, the Revolution have pulled the trigger on a loan deal for a Homegrown player as Isaac Angking will now be on loan with USL Championship side Charlotte Independence.

The club announced the deal late Friday morning.

Much like Thursday’s loan for Justin Rennicks, Angking’s loan with Charlotte is open-ended and the Revs can recall him at all time.

The 19-year-old East Providence native has yet to make a first-team appearance with New England so far in 2019, as he had dealt with a knee injury in the first half of the season, which required surgery. He had a brief, one-match loan with Hartford last month -- he saw no minutes with HAFC -- and has seen time with the Revs Academy U19s.

He made three appearances with the club in the second half of 2018, nearly scoring a goal in his debut in the Bronx.

BSJ Analysis

Another day, another loan deal.

Like I said with JR12 Thursday, this is a good move for Angking. Like Rennicks, Angking needs minutes, and he can get them in Charlotte. Basically everything I said about JR’s loan, consider that what I’m saying about Angking’s loan: get minutes, bust your tail, come back in January and win a spot. This isn’t a bad thing.

And with Zachary Herivaux in Birmingham, and Rennicks and Angking in North Carolina, the Revolution now have three of their Homegrowns actually in Foxborough: Diego Fagundez, Scott Caldwell, and Nicolas Firmino. If you think about it, the situation is much akin to how it was pre-2018: two Homegrowns playing regular minutes — if one wishes to say regular minutes in Caldwell’s case — and one Homegrown waiting for a chance.

It also begs the question: with Firmino not having made any first-team appearances — with the exception of the Chelsea game — and mostly playing with the U19s like Angking did, how long will it be before the Somerville native heads out on a similar open-ended loan? It would certainly make sense for that to occur, as well.

Right now, the available players for the Revs are as follows:

Goalkeepers: Matt Turner, Brad Knighton, Cody Cropper

Defenders: Andrew Farrell, Brandon Bye, Edgar Castillo, Jalil Anibaba, Antonio Delamea, DeJuan Jones, Michael Mancienne

D-Mids: Juan Agudelo, Wilfried Zahibo, Caldwell, Luis Caicedo

Attacking mids: Fagundez, Carles Gil, Cristian Penilla, Firmino

Forwards: Teal Bunbury, Gustavo Bou, Juan Fernando Caicedo, Tajon Buchanan

On loan: Herivaux, Brian Wright (both with Birmingham), Rennicks (NCFC), Angking (Charlotte)

That’s 22 players in Foxborough, 22 players — for the most part) whom Bruce Arena appears to want to ride with for the foreseeable future.
