Al Horford is expected to leave Celtics as free agent

The Celtics nightmare offseason continued on Tuesday amid multiple reports indicating that Al Horford will not reach a deal with the team to return to Boston next season. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com indicates that the two sides discussed various contracts scenarios but the gulf was too wide on the terms to reach a deal. Horford will now hit free agency on July 1 to pursue a long-term deal on the open market.

The move leaves the Celtics with only a clear path towards building around their youth on the roster in the wake of losing their top two players in free agency in the coming weeks. If the Celtics renounce all of their free agents (Marcus Morris, Terry Rozier, etc.) they will have $28 million in cap room with the ability to get that number even higher if they stash or trade away a couple of draft picks for future selections. Here's a current look at their depth chart as currently configured.

PG: Smart
SG: Brown
SF: Hayward
PF: Tatum
C: Baynes

Bench: Williams, Ojeleye, Yabusele, No. 14, No. 20, No. 22, Veteran X
