MILWAUKEE -- Marcus Smart remains with the Celtics in Milwaukee as he ramps up court activities nearly four weeks following suffering a torn oblique against the Orlando Magic in the second-to-last game of the regular season. While his progress remains steady, Brad Stevens is not even thinking about the possibility of him returning to the court just yet.
“Until he gets into something with practice, I don’t think we have a chance to have a timeline,” Stevens said. “So if he comes in and can practice between one of those three-day breaks, then I think we can start to talk about, ‘Okay, he’s two weeks away, one week away, three weeks away.” Whatever the case may be. He hasn’t even been cleared for any of that stuff yet.”
The Celtics initially gave Smart a four-to-six week timetable after he suffered the injury last month, but the 25-year-old guard has been optimistic about the gains he's made in the past week, as he started to do more heavy workouts before games and practices. Stevens tried to downplay just how close those workouts mean for the timing of his return.
