HEADLINES

Bye, Anibaba sent off in wild second half: Both Brandon Bye and Jalil Anibaba found themselves taking an early shower in Kansas City Saturday night. Ten minutes into the second half and with the Revs ahead, 3-1, Bye clattered Gerso just over the midway line; Gerso had acres of pasture ahead of him, and referee Baldomero Toledo went to his shorts pocket and showed him a straight red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity. Fast forward to the 89th minute and the game 4-4, Jalil Anibaba, playing on a yellow card, clattered Johnny Russell. Toledo showed him a second yellow, and New England played the seven minutes of stoppage time down by two men. Both will be suspended for next Saturday’s tilt in Philadelphia.

Revs blow two-goal lead, but earn a point: A wild one in the Blue Hell which sees New England leave with a tie — but it can be looked at as two points dropped. The Revolution held a 3-1 lead at the half, but Sporting Kansas City would cut that to a goal, 3-2, after Felipe Gutierrez banged home a penalty at the hour mark, with Tajon Buchanan adjudged to have taken Gerso down in the box. Five minutes later, the Revs found themselves awarded a penalty after Juan Agudelo popped the ball off Russell’s arm in the box; SKC keeper Tim Melia guessed right and saved Carles Gil’s penalty, but Agudelo raced in, got the rebound, and poked it into the path of DeJuan Jones, who scored his first MLS goal to make it 4-2 to New England. But Kansas City would score two in 13 minutes, with Gutierrez and Krisztian Nemeth doing the honors to pull level.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

“It was very wild, non-stop, just fighting non-stop. There were so many highlights in this game. We just came here with the mindset of coming out with anything we can: one point, three points. Down two men, we were able to pick up a point.”
— Juan Agudelo
