Final: Blue Jackets 3, Bruins 2 (2OT) - Duchene wins marathon game, Columbus evens series taken at TD Garden (2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs)

Given how much the Bruins manhandled the Blue Jackets in Game 1 on Thursday, most were expecting to a slugfest in the next matchup between both clubs. Through the first 20 minutes, Game 2 lived up the promised billing, with 36 hits doled out in the period.

After that? Yeesh.

While goals from Matt Grzelcyk and David Pastrnak put Boston up, 2-1, in the opening minutes of the second, things unraveled quickly following that, as an extended stretch of play marred by poor turnovers and baffling decision-making in the O-zone allowed the Blue Jackets to capitalize — with Artemi Panarin sniping one past Rask for his second of the game to tie things up at 8:01.

The rest of regulation wasn’t kind to the Bruins, as Boston squandered a power play off of a double-minor issued to Josh Anderson at 7:37 in the second, while the B’s only managed to land 15 total shots on goal over the last 40 minutes of regulation.

Add in the few quality chances that Boston was able to generate that were quickly negated by poor passing, and you have a deadlock that eventually bled over into two periods of overtime. With 16:18 left in 2OT, Matt Duchene ended things on the power play — potting the game-winner and evening the series at 1-1.

PREGAME NOTES

Boston’s offense as of late has been paced by its bottom six, with
Charlie Coyle
,
Marcus Johansson
,
Noel Acciari, Sean Kuraly
and
Joakim Nordstrom
tallying seven of Boston’s last eight postseason goals. Up top, the B’s desperately need to get
David Pastrnak
going, especially on the power play. While he’s been able to corral the puck at his usual spot at the left circle on the man advantage, look for him to be on the search for some backdoor passes,
because the chances have been there. Based on Saturday's line rushes, it looks as though the B's will look to jumpstart No. 88 by putting him with his regular linemates in Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand

David Krejci
Jake DeBrusk
Danton Heinen.

Riley Nash.

Sergei Bobrovsky

Cam Atkinson
