All you need to know about the 10-man Revolution’s 1-0 loss to Columbus Crew SC Saturday night in quickie form, complete with BSJ insight and analysis:
HEADLINES
Mancienne’s red card kills the momentum: Not what you want to see out of the Revolution’s captain, Michael Mancienne, who had already found his name taken down in referee Rubiel Vazquez’s book in the 9th minute of the match for a foul on Federico Higuain. That meant he needed to stay within himself and not get into situations where he would find himself sent off. That happened in the 64th minute, as he had a hard slide into Higuain right in the middle of the park. Vazquez went to the back pocket and showed him his second yellow, and he’ll miss next Saturday’s match against Atlanta United.
Williams puts Columbus ahead late in the first half: It was thoroughly against the run of play — and offside, to boot. Josh Williams, on Higuain’s 42nd-minute free kick service out on the flank, had gotten behind Teal Bunbury by the length of his shoulder and flicked the ball goalward. Cody Cropper was frozen, and Williams’ header slipped it at the back post. The goal held up the rest of the way, and now New England is 1-4-1 through six matches in ’19. And with no one around them taking care of business Saturday, the Revs are still 10th in the Eastern Conference.
