Final: Red Sox 6, Athletics 3 - Red Sox overcome three-run deficit to overtake A's taken at BSJ Headquarters (Red Sox)

Storming back from a 3-1 deficit, the Red Sox scored six unanswered runs and snapped a four-game losing streak with a 6-3 victory over the Oakland A's.

The Sox got a solo homer from Blake Swihart and a two-run double by Mitch Moreland to tie things, then got a two-run double off the third-base bag from Mookie Betts to pull ahead in the top of the ninth.

The Sox had to overcome a mediocre outing from Nathan Eovaldi, but got four scoreless innings from their bullpen.

IN-GAME OBSERVATIONS:

1:14    Red Sox catch a break as a smash down the third base line hits the bag -- and thus, stays away from vacuum cleaner Matt Chapman -- and rolls down the left field line, scoring two.

12:54 Huge play by Brock Holt at short, who, off-balance, makes a strong throw to first to nab Laureano, getting Barnes and the Sox out of the inning still tied at 3-3.

12:28 Interesting call by Cora here -- he goes to Matt Barnes in the seventh inning for what could be the biggest at-bat of the game -- two out, man on first, Khris Davis due.

12:22  It's clear that the Red Sox haven't learned their lesson in this series -- don't hit the ball either to Chapman at third or Laureano in center field.

11:55  Aggressive approach by Mitch Moreland, who swings at a first-pitch fastball from Ryan Buchter and yanks a double into the right field corner, scoring two and sending Martinez to third.

11:50  A's open the door for the Sox, as Jurickson Profar throws away an easy double-play ball, giving the Sox first-and-third with one out and Martinez up. Big spot in this game.

11:21  The drought is over. The Red Sox have their first run tonight -- and first since Seattle -- is a solo homer to right by Blake Swihart. In his first at-bat of the night, it looked as though Swihart just missed on a ball that was hit to right-center. This time, he didn't miss. And that was Swihart's first hit of the season. And on his 27th birthday.

11:20 Poor execution for Eovaldi, who hangs a curveball over the heart of the plate, which Laureano hammers out to straightaway center for a two-run homer. That's 17 homers allowed by the Sox in six-plus games.

11:16  Of the first 12 outs the Red Sox have made, four have been popups to Chapman and two others have been groundouts to Chapman. It's like the ball is searching him out, which, if you're the Red Sox, isn't a good thing.

10:56  It's early yet, but something to keep an eye on: Eovaldi had needed 49 pitches to get through the first two innings. That doesn't bode well for a team hoping its starters can go deep to preserve the bullpen in the middle of this stretch of 11 games in 11 days.

10:54  Credit to Eovaldi there. After loading the bases with no out, he gets out of it with just one run allowed.

10:51   Well, you don't see that happen often -- a smoked line drive by Nick Hundley takes Rafael Devers' glove off, resulting in a run.

10:45  Command an issue early for Eovaldi, who has walked two hit and hit another through the first seven hitters he's faced over two innings.

10:36  Scoreless streak update: 20 innings and counting

10:28 Bloop single to left for J.D. Martinez, extends his hitting streak to seven games.

10:08 And there's your nightly Matt Chapman highlight at third. Every game of the series, he's taken away hits with tremendous plays. Tonight, he robs Mookie Betts of a hit, ranging to the shortstop side and coming up ready to throw.
