Bedard's Daily Briefing 04.01.19: Red Sox off to slow title defense, B's slumping, big college hockey weekend taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I wonder if anyone else's kids get unusual enjoyment out of April Fools' Day...

  • So the Red Sox finally left Seattle after what felt like a week with a 1-3 record and, as Alex Cora aptly put it, they were lucky to win the one game (thanks, Mitch Moreland).

  • More of the same on Sunday: bad starting pitching dug the team too big a hole.

  • Cora was ready for the legit second-guessing after the game, and his answer was fine ... but the fact remains the starters got less work this spring than last year.

  • I don't really mind their long-game approach: the Red Sox are making the playoffs and October is more important than April. And after what the Patriots did ... I'm game for anything.

  • Bruins were just bad all around in Detroit on Sunday. One of those "Too many passengers" games.

  • Congrats to UMass and Providence for representing New England in the Frozen Four. A historic victory for UMass and, for the Friars, this has shades of 2015 written all over it. That year the Friars were the last seed in their own regional (thanks, NCAA) and rode that all the way to a title over BU. It's like deja vu all over again. Also, heck of an upset pulled by AIC.
