Bedard's Daily Briefing 03.12.19: Patriots take early hits in free agency, Celtics close trip with loss taken at BSJ Headquarters (Regular Features)

Good morning!

A few random thoughts while I wonder if NFL teams ever learn from past mistakes...

  • #AsExpected, the Patriots lost Trey Flowers and Trent Brown in free agency on Monday. We'll have an analysis post on that shortly.

  • Flowers was one of my favorite Patriots to cover. Never said anything truly enlightening, but he was always accountable, always answered questions after wins or losses. Worked his butt off every day. Switched sides in a contract year without batting an eye. Just a credit to his parents.

  • Patriots will continue to be a contender.

  • That the Dolphins made Dwayne Allen the first signing of the Brian Flores era tells me he's trying to change the culture. And Allen is a good guy to start with. Has never been the same since his injury in Indy, but he's a total pro.

  • I can't believe the Jets gave C.J. Mosley $17 million per season. He's a really good player, but that's QB money.

  • Nice job by the Celtics reverting back to their no-defense ways by ending the road trip with a dud against the Clippers.

  • Every time you want to believe in this team again, they have another of these games. Of course they elected to stay positive.
