In this week’s edition of the NFL Notebook, we get more thoughts on the defensive coaching changes from a member of the New England secondary, examine the possibility of the Patriots going after another Iowa player, and get a good Bill Belichick story from a former New England receiver. But first, we go one-on-one with Deatrich Wise to get a unique scouting report on one of the better defensive line prospects in the draft — his brother, Daniel.
1. You’ve had the McCourty Brothers and the Hollister Brothers. How about the Wise Brothers?
Deatrich Wise has spent two years with the Patriots. His brother Daniel, who just wrapped up his career at Kansas, is considered a top defensive line prospect. Could we see another sibling connecting in Foxborough?
“We’ve been talking about it for a long time,” Deatrich told BostonSportsJournal.com. “We played together all the time, but it was always a dream to be able to play alongside my brothers on an organized team. I never had a chance to play with them on a team because I was older, but it’s a dream of mine one day.”
So could it happen? Daniel is a 6-foot-3, 290-pounder who finished his college career at Kansas with 18.5 sacks and 44 tackles for loss. (His best statistical year came in his junior season, where he posted 53 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss and also racked up five sacks while forcing two fumbles.)
