Good morning!
A few random thoughts while I wonder if anyone blew away yesterday...
- Are the Bruins a better team than they were a week ago after the trades for Charlie Coyle and Marcus Johansson? Sure they are.
- Are they good enough to compete with a Lightning squad in a seven-game series, if Tampa is healthy? No, they are not. Not even sure adding a Mark Stone would have done that.
- So what exactly was the point of what the Bruins did at the trade deadline? It almost feels like, take your pick, 2016 (John-Michael Liles, Lee Stempniak), or 2015 (Brett Connolly). Even last year seemed bigger with Rick Nash and Tommy Wingels ... and we know how that worked out.
- It was almost like the Bruins wanted to look busy but really didn't want to do too much. Yes, they can make the argument that they didn't want to pay too much as other teams did. Well, we'll watch the scoreboard and see who's playing deeper into the playoffs.
- Of course, the Bruins are probably hoping it works out like 2011 with Rich Peverley and Chris Kelly. We know how that worked out.
- Celtics, coming off their Latest Worst Loss Of The Season, are in Toronto to take on the Raptors. Obviously a huge game, and I expect the C's to act accordingly and play really well. This is what they do.
- Patriots played like crap against bad teams but beat all the important teams. That worked out well for them. Big difference, however, in trying to win one game a week in the NFL postseason, and seven-game series in the NBA when, right now, you don't even have homecourt advantage in any round.
- The Celtics can start playing like the Patriots in Week 16 and 17 anytime now...
