Good afternoon!
A few random thoughts while I wonder if there's a press box in the sky for people like Nick Cafardo...
- First of all, obviously shocking news out of Fort Myers with the passing of longtime Globe baseball writer Nick Cafardo. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Such a tragic loss.
- As I'm sure you've heard by now, Nick was a friend to all who knew him. He was a great colleague of mine in my time at the Globe, he was encouraging as we opened BSJ, and welcoming when I'd jump in on the Red Sox last year. He will definitely be missed and the Boston sports scene is less without his voice on the Red Sox.
- The Sox, by the way, will be playing baseball today for the first time in 2019.
- In other, less important, news, the Celtics dropped their first game out of the break in Milwaukee. The good news? The Celtics shot terrible and still almost won against a fully healthy Bucks squad. The bad news? Not great execution down the stretch.
- I started my autopsy on the 2018 Patriots as we approach the team-building phase for 2019.
- Jermaine Wiggins ... hockey player?
- Devin McCourty announced he'll be back for 2019. That's great news for the team. I'll give my thoughts on his contract at the bottom of the page.
