Nickell Robey-Coleman: Comments about Tom Brady were taken 'out of context'

ATLANTA — After going hard after Tom Brady and the Patriots in a Bleacher Report story, Los Angeles cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman walked back some of his comments Monday at Opening Night.

Speaking to a gaggle of reporters, the defensive back said his comments were “taken out of context.”

“Tom is a great quarterback. He’s the GOAT. He’s a legend,” said Robey-Coleman. “I’m not taking nothing from his game. I was asked a question about the difference between the past and now, I said his age. It wasn’t about ‘He’s old.’ I’m not taking nothing away from him. It was just his age.”

For what it’s worth, his teammates didn’t back down from the comments, with Aqib Talib saying Robey-Coleman “said some good things too.”

“I think the media reports the line they want to report. He said a lot of positive things abut Tom too,” he added. “But they … whoever wrote the story decided to X out all the positives and do what the media do.

“He ain’t lost nothing. He’s in the Super Bowl again,” he added. “He’s Tom Brady.”

When it comes to bulletin board material, Talib noted there was plenty of it to go around.

“Everybody likes to use bulletin board material,” Talib said. “Patrick Chung said they’re going to kick our ass. Talk about that.

“That’s my dog,” Talib quickly added. “What’s up, P. Chung?”
