- Boston’s forward corps will feature a new second line on Wednesday, with Peter Cehlarik slotting up with David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk to round out the top six. As a result, David Backes will be a healthy scratch for the matchup against Philly. In 38 games played this season, Backes has tallied four goals and 12 points, including just one goal in his last 14 matchups.
- Jaroslav Halak will get the nod in net against the Flyers, while Tuukka Rask will start on Thursday against the Blues. In seven games so far in December, Halak is 4-3 with a .910 save percentage.
- Currently, the Bruins and Canadiens are tied in the standings with 57 points on the year, while the Habs have played two more games than Boston.
- The Flyers currently sit near the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just 40 points on the season. Even with some big weapons up front such as Claude Giroux, the Flyers rank 25th in the league with 2.78 goals per game.
- Down the other end of the ice is even worse for Philly, with the Flyers’ goalie corps posting a collective save percentage of .882 — the worst mark in the NHL.
